About Us

Thank you for your interest in Bonanza Salt

A Lifelong Celebration of Flavor & Fundraising

Bonanza Salt was formulated in the late 1950’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan to be sold for a charity fundraiser. My family is carrying on that fundraising idea by donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales of Bonanza Salt to the Les Turner ALS Foundation.

Bonanza Salt has been used in our family my whole life. My grandmother lived in Marshall, Michigan and knew the founders of Bonanza Salt. Ellie was a fabulous cook. She immediately fell in love with Bonanza Salt from the time it was created. Our Grandmother instilled the love of entertaining and preparing great meals in my Mom.

My Mom and Dad carried on the love of cooking and entertaining. A passion that I and my brother Alex carry on today.

Through all these years Bonanza Salt has been a key ingredient.

Bonanza Salt has had three owners. We are the third.

Dr. John Stropko and his wife Barbara, the second owners, have a similar story to ours. They too have been long time consumers of Bonanza Salt. Their connection to Robbin Smith, the grand daughter of the creator, led the Stropko’s to owning the Bonanza Salt business.

Through the years of ordering Bonanza Seasonings from the Stropko’s, we developed a relationship. For years I mentioned to John that if he were ever interested in selling the business, I would be interested.

In 2020 my father, brother and I bought the business to assure the Bonanza Salt and seasonings will continue for our children and theirs.

We continue to produce the original formulas using the best ingredients available in our Whitefish, Montana facilities.

Why the Les Turner ALS Foundation?

Our mom passed away in 2011 after a tough battle with ALS. My Dad, Brother and I have decided a portion of the Bonanza Salt profits will be donated to the Les Turner ALS Foundation based in Skokie, Illinois.

While technically considered a “rare disease,” experts predict an individual’s lifetime risk of acquiring ALS is about 1 in 300, by the age of 85.

The fight against ALS will be aided by our work and your purchase.
